Did Aahana Kumra take a dig at Kusha Kapila and influencers for taking up acting duties?

Mumbai: Many social media influencers have taken up acting as a new job and one of them is Kusha Kapila who is getting a lot of attention for her work. But does she deserve it? There are many actors who have slammed influencers for becoming actors without talent and the latest example is ahana kumaraAahana has been one of the most loved and talented actors and recently, in her interview, she spoke about the new changes in the industry and the pressure on them as actors due to influencers stepping up their game on social media.

Aahana expressed her concern in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, where she spoke about how there are influencers who are doing overacting jobs and how it affects actors like her who just want to do their job. Aahana said, “Influence and networking are the only things that are going to get you work. A lot of actors are confused about how to navigate this because we are being asked to be aggressively active on social media and hire PR agencies. When I started out, there wasn’t this kind of pressure to look a certain way on social media and keep making reels and dance videos.”

Aahana further took a dig at influencers and said, “Nowadays a lot of casting is happening based on social media followers. It is very difficult and extremely painful to get work in today’s time. Even the filmmakers you want to work with are moving towards people with social media influence, the so-called ‘influencers’. So, actors are wondering, ‘Should I become an influencer and start dancing on social media to get work? Should I start shouting, mimicking or be like a Delhi aunty?’ Will you get work like this? Because I don’t think those people will be able to do much more than this”.

Aahana called the industry a cruel and a tough place to survive as an outsider, “It is a very cruel and tough industry. It will not give you a second chance as an outsider, however as an insider, you will get to waste 20-30 films before you know how to perform. Young kids from film families are being groomed from the age of five to get into the industry. It is a bit dynastic in today’s time. Soon, after a point in India, there will be a shortage of actors in our industry. If you are asked to make social media reels every day and dance to get cast, who is going to act?”, concluded the Lipstick Under My Burkha actress.
