New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report before a Patna court in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, giving a clean chit to his ex-girlfriend, actor Rhea Chakraborty.
Five years after the actor’s death shocked the entire nation, the CBI in its closure report rejected any evidence to suggest that the late actor was “illegally confined, threatened, or abetted/instigated to commit suicide” by Rhea Chakraborty.
The agency also said in its report that it had found no evidence that Chakraborty had embezzled Sushant’s money or belongings, people familiar with the matter said.

What did the CBI closure report say in Sushant Singh Rajput death case?
The CBI had filed two closure reports in March this year – one in the case filed by Sushant’s father KK Singh in Patna, alleging that Rhea and her family forced his son to commit suicide and misused his money; And the second in the case filed by Rhea against Sushant’s sisters in Mumbai.
According to the closure report, investigation revealed that Sushant died by suicide. It further said that none of the accused persons were living with him between June 8, 2020, and June 14, 2020, the day he was found dead in his Bandra flat.
The report said that Rhea and her brother Showik left Sushant’s house on June 8 and did not visit the actor’s residence after that. It said that Sushant had spoken to Showik via WhatsApp on June 10 at 2:41 pm, but there was no conversation with Rhea between June 8 and June 14.
“No evidence has come on record to show that there was any meeting between Sushant and Rhea or any member of her family or that they were in contact through any other means,” the report said.
The actor’s former manager Shruti Modi also stopped visiting his house after he suffered a leg fracture in February 2020. According to the report, apart from this, Sushant’s sister Mitu Singh stayed with him in his flat from June 8 to June 12.

No evidence of wrongful imprisonment or embezzlement
The report found no evidence to support allegations of wrongful imprisonment. It further added that when Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik left Sushant’s house on June 8, she took only her belongings with her, including an Apple laptop and an Apple wrist watch, which was gifted to her by Sushant.
On the allegations of theft and embezzlement, the report clarified that there is no evidence that any property was dishonestly taken from Sushant’s possession by Rhea or any other accused person without his knowledge.
Sushant and Riya’s relationship
Investigation confirmed that Sushant and Rhea were in a live-in relationship from April 2019 to June 2020. On financial charges, the CBI said Sushant’s chartered accountant and lawyer had proper monitoring of his accounts.
When Sushant took Rhea on a trip to Europe in October 2019, the booking and payments were made by his manager on Sushant’s instructions. The report mentioned that Sushant had told his then manager, Siddharth Pithani (his flatmate) that Rhea was “part of the family”. Therefore, the expenditure incurred on Riya cannot be brought under the ambit of Section 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code.
The agency also said that it did not find any indication of threat to Sushant from any of the accused, including digital data. The report said, “The only allegation made by Sushant’s family is that he told them that Rhea had threatened to make his medical records public if he did not listen to them. However, this evidence falls into the realm of hearsay.”
Sushant’s family opposes CBI’s clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty
According to a report in Hindustan Times, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family and his lawyer, Advocate Varun Singh, have rejected the findings, calling it “nothing but a sham”.
HT quoted the family’s lawyer as saying the CBI report was “weak” and claimed it “will not stand up in a court of law.”
It is being told that a Patna court will hear the matter related to the closure report on December 20.
