Oscar-nominated actress Dyan Cannon, now 88, told Fox News Digital that she tried “drugs, men and pills” before she found the one thing that ultimately gave her peace: her faith in God. Cannon, who co-hosts a new podcast called God’s Table Hollywood, said her lifelong search for meaning was full of detours. “My main quest has been to understand why I’m here, to understand who I really am,” he said.
“Not necessarily to fit in, and not necessarily to stand out. But to be understood. And in being understood, for me, there has been freedom,” she said.
She laughed softly as she admitted how long it took. “I’ve tried everything,” she said. “But they were like a Band-Aid that wouldn’t stick when I started sweating.”
Faith grounded him, he explained. “Belief has helped me with my emotional life. I used to expect a man to make me happy. Can you believe it? I used to think it was his job to make me happy. It’s… impossible,” she explained.

Canon’s opinion on Cary Grant and marrying the ‘God Girl’
Canon’s love life was once a topic of discussion in Hollywood. He married Cary Grant in 1965, when he was 62 and she was 28. They welcomed daughter Jennifer Grant, their only child, a year later, but the marriage ended in 1968. She later married producer Stanley Fimberg in 1985, before divorcing six years later.
His time with Grant was intense. As Fox News Digital reported, she once said that Grant introduced her to LSD, convincing her that it could “help her find peace.” She said, “She thought it was God’s entrance. I knew I shouldn’t do it, but I did it to please her and save our marriage.”
After the divorce, Cannon turned to pills and marijuana to cope and eventually suffered a “breakdown”. “I was shut down,” she told the outlet.
He told that after that his faith became stronger. She further added, “When I say I am a ‘God girl’, it means that after so many years of searching and trying, I have been able to understand that God is only one who loves everyone equally.”

Canon talks about learning peace, not perfection
Canon admitted that his openness about faith cost him friendships and some jobs over the years. He said, “In the past, I’ve lost friends because of it. So-called friends. But I think the city of angels – Los Angeles – would be better off deciding whose angels they are.”
These days she is feeling relaxed by being single. She still believes in love but is not keen on marrying again. “I was forced to give up my career to get married. I don’t think I’ll do that again,” she said.
When Cannon was asked what she would tell her younger self—the woman who once referred to Grant as “God,” she smiled. According to Fox News, she laughingly replied, “Snap out of it.”
