Director Michael Sarnoski announces sequel to ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “A Quiet Place: Day One” director Michael Sarnoski says he hopes his sci-fi horror film gets a sequel from Paramount Pictures.

The film, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, has been receiving rave reviews and has grossed US$118 million worldwide since its release on June 28.

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is a spin-off film based on an idea by actor-filmmaker John Krasinski, who directed and starred in the first two films in a post-apocalypse horror franchise called “A Quiet Place.”

When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Sarnoski told Variety: “Absolutely. I’m sure you will. But I don’t know – right now, I’m recovering from making it. So I’m sure Paramount will come up with something really fun next time.”

“A Quiet Place: Day One” follows Sam, a cancer patient who is trapped in New York City, which has been invaded by sound-sensitive aliens. As she tries to escape the danger with her service cat Frodo, she meets Eric, a young English law student trying to save his life from the invaders.

The director, who is also known for directing the 2021 film “Pig”, said he would like to see “something similarly offbeat”, like an unexpected character in this world.

“What attracted me to this story was the uniqueness of Sam, who follows a dying man who isn’t even really fighting to stay alive… The ‘Quiet Place’ universe opens itself up to any character you want to follow and discover. I’m not sure.

Sarnoski said, “I put so much into Sam and Eric. There was just so much love and care that I had to get these characters to be true. I had to think of a character that I could really love and be really amazed by, looking at the world through their eyes.”

“A Quiet Place: Day One” also stars Djimon Hounsou and Alex Wolff. The film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, was written by Sarnoski and Krasinski.

A third installment in the original franchise is currently in development. Krasinski is returning to direct the film, which will be released in 2025.
