Amidst the success of his box office, Big-Ticut Bollywood entertainer Housefull 5 has found himself in the eyes of a controversy. While the audience upbeat tracks are ready for Lal Pari, Digital Content Manufacturer and dancer Sandeep Brahmin claims that the film credited him without copying his signature dance move.
Red Pari alleged of literary theft
Sandeep, who is known for his specific hat trick trick, took his disappointment on Instagram to express his disappointment. Sharing a reel comparing his original step used in Housefull 5, he alleged, “I have a film Instagram and YouTube and a film called Housefull 5. It has a song called Lal Pari. They have copied my chawl, but they have not mentioned my name, they have not given me (SIC).”
The video posted by Sandeep on 3 May began to attract attention after the film hit theaters on 5 June. Since then, the case has gained rapid traction on social media platforms.
Reacting to the allegations, director Tarun Mansukhani told News18 that he was unaware of Sandeep’s work before the film’s release. He said, “I had read something about that. To be honest, I had not seen his videos earlier. I only knew this after launching the song. I came to know that the step in the song is the hook step that he is known,” he explained.
The dance number Laal Pari was choreographed by an experienced professional Remo D’Souza in the industry. While Tarun did not deny similarities, he unknowingly emphasized the overlap. “I am sure someone must have seen it at some point and realized that it’s a great step to do it and we did it.”
Director apologizes to the status of literary theft
Tarun went ahead to express regret over the situation, given that he had earlier knew about Sandeep’s work, he would have welcomed his input. “There was no intention of harming anyone or stealing anything. Life is not that. If I knew this man first, I would have brought him to choreographed the song for my actors. Who would be a better choreographer of the red angel than the manufacturer who himself is a better choreographer than the producer.”
He said, “There was no intention of engaging in any kind of literary theft. It is one of the things that are ending. We are very sorry if he feels so. I want to reiterate that there was no intention of causing any loss of any form.”
Housefull 5 box office
Despite the uproar, Housefull 5 has emerged as a commercial juggler. The film has already crossed ₹ 100 crore and is continuously climbing. Returning to theaters after 17 years since Dostana (2008), shared, “It looks brilliant because I came back to theaters after 17 years … Right now, we are for Rs 178 crore gross rupee worldwide.”
He concluded on a grateful note: “More than being happy, we are grateful … There is a certain amount of relief that it has been done, it is out of there and is being appreciated.”
While the film is in the glory of the box office, everyone’s eyes are on how the producers address the choreography controversy – and does it lead to official credit or cooperation.
