From accepting Aamir Khan for “Taare Zamin Paar” in 2007, to direct him in his sequel “Sitare Zameen Paar”, Life has made a complete circle for director RS Prasanna, which calls the upcoming film a love letter for a fan boy for superstar.
Prasanna, known for the direction of “Kalyan Samayal Sadam” and his Hindi remake “Shub Mangal Savadh”, was at the film school in 2007, when he was watching “Tare Zameen Paar” in Tamil. “I remember that I blowing my eyes after seeing my friends, and my then girlfriend, ‘Taare Zamin Paar’ with my wife, when Aamir Sir won the Best Debut Director Award at the Golapuri Srinivas Award, he came to Chennai to accept it.
“I was part of the audience, who was looking at Drona, like Ekalavya, from outside and outside, looking at Drona. I found closest to Aamir sir, that (prize) program, which is about 300 meters away. I didn’t expect anything else,” Chennai -born director told PTI in an interview.
The director said that when he met Aamir with the idea of a film, which eventually became “Sitare Zamin Paar”, he told him how he made him happy during the award ceremony.
“I was very emotional and I said,” Sir, thank you for the confidence that dreams come true. It’s not even a dream that I dreamed. It was such a big thing that I did not even dare to dream about it, “” In one of a rap parties, I told him that he is like a love letter of a fan boy. Believes, “Prasanna said.
Aamir arrived at the 41 -year -old director after the release of “Shub Mangal Savdhan”.
“We had some discussions, and an intention that,” If there was a good script of a kind, pass it to AK Sir “, and it was great for me.” A few years later, when Prasanna decided to make his next with writer Divya Nidhi Sharma, Aamir’s name was an easy option and it later became “Sitare Zamin Paar”.
“As a fan of him, I would like him to do this film. I thought, ‘If he is the only option for it, then perhaps the film will never be’ because he is going to say yes to a random director who he does not even know, he has just seen a film.
It was Aamir, Prasanna said, who suggested the title “Sitare Zamin Paar”. Attracting a parallel with his acclaimed film “Taare Zameen Paar”, he reported that the two stories shared a similar essence.
“It had new characters, a new journey, it is a comedy, so it has everything new, yet it has got the same heart of ‘Taare Zameen Paar’, I felt that it was a great idea.” Apart from Aamir, the film consists of Genelia Deshmukh and ten Nawagantukas, including Araush Dutta, Gopi Krishna Verma, Samvit Desai, Vedanta Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshar.
Prasanna said that the experience of directing new people was a rewarding experience.
“This film cannot be without them, so it is my job to make time and effort to teach them some equipment that they cannot have. For me, they bring some rawness and beauty, which their advantage is.
“Like, when you watch Majeed Majidi’s films, or ‘Anjali’ films by Mani Sir, or Darshel Safari in ‘Taare Zameen Paar’, so those actor can bring out real emotions. Now, professional actors will have to bring it with a lot of effort. We focus on giving them a safe and playful types of environment,” he said.
Prasanna and his team conducted acting workshops for more than six months.
He said that his director photography (DOP), Srinivas Reddy, adopted an innovative approach to filmmaking, which focused on the comfort of the actors.
“We quickly decided that wherever they want to move (ten actor) (they can), we will find out in this way; this is our job,” Prasanna described the process as “almost invisible filmmaking”. “Sitare Zameen Paar” will see Aamir’s return to films after “Lal Singh Chafdha”, his 2022 release, which received lukewarm response.
Prasanna said that the magic of cinema lies in a compelling script, whether it is a ‘Masala’ film or a deep emotional story.
“When a star chooses to work with a good script and a passionate director, Magic is. Not every film will work, not every film will be successful. Every industry goes through its chakras;
“The stars are very important. I have worked with a superstar, and I know the difference. It’s about how many people love you and expect you. Like, when a Tom Cruise is ready for release, something is expected. A star is like a curator, he makes a certain promise to the audience that ‘if it is my film, if it is my film, it’s no matter,” he said.
“Sitare Zameen Paar” is set to release on 20 June.
