New Delhi: TV actors Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya, who were holidaying in Florence, had their passports, cash and cards stolen by thieves while they were staying at a resort near the Italian tourist town.
Tripathi told PTI over phone from Florence on Thursday that they were in the process of filing an FIR and were awaiting help from the Indian Embassy.
The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon (local time). But by the time he realised he had been robbed, it was already evening, the “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein” actor said.
“We were inside the hotel. We were hungry and the hotel knew that we had luggage inside the car… We were checking in to the hotel the same day. They told us we could leave our luggage in the car and have food. We thought it was all safe as it was a resort property and not on the road,” Tripathi said.
The resort is about half an hour away from Florence.
According to the actress, either she and her husband were stalked or such incidents happen frequently.
“The thieves broke the window, took away all the luggage kept in the rear seat… Everything we had brought from India – passport, cards, cash, everything disappeared. I am shocked. The hotel people are helping us. The hotel did not have CCTV, so we took videos and photographs as proof,” Tripathi said.
He claimed that no one can file a report anywhere in Italy after 6 pm. “So if anything happens between 6 pm and 9 am, you can’t do anything about it. We are going to the police station to file a report, we hope that after that things will become easier and we will be able to contact someone from the Indian Embassy,” he said.
“We are enthusiastic travellers… We hope to come back with better memories. We are upset, we have no money, but we are keeping our spirits up. The situation is not very good, but we are smiling,” Tripathi said.
