Dola Re Dola song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Devdas included in IndieWire’s best songs list

New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magical storytelling has always captivated audiences, creating cinematic masterpieces. A filmmaker whose imagination and craft are timeless. While his films exude the magic of his storytelling, his songs too exude the same fervour. Among his many films, his 2002 period romantic drama Devdas is an iconic and evergreen album.

Even after over a decade, the film’s album continues to make its mark, as ‘Dola Re Dola’ ranked 8th on IndieWire’s ‘Best Bollywood Numbers of the 2000s’ list.

It would be fair to say that every single song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas is a gem in itself! However, the song that has particularly found its place in IndieWire’s list is ‘Dola Re Dola’. Beautifully sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shreya Ghoshal and KK, the song perfectly showcases the magnificence of Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who are dancing together on screen for the first time in a spectacular sequence.

Reflecting SLB’s extraordinary storytelling, the song is set against the backdrop of Paro’s family’s Durga Puja celebration, where she happily welcomes the woman who is now in love with her childhood sweetheart, setting aside social stigmas and dancing together to celebrate. The red and white saris also became visually iconic with the song, honoring Bengali traditions. The song is beautifully choreographed by Saroj Khan.

This is indeed a well-deserved recognition for a song beautifully crafted by SLB. Creating a magical moment that will remain a treasure in the world of entertainment.
