Canadian rapper Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham opens up about his past relationship with tennis legend Serena Williams in new footage released from a recent studio session, and sheds light on the inspiration behind his 2016 hit single “Too Good.”
The 37-year-old rapper revealed that the song, which also features Rihanna and is included on his fourth studio album “Views,” was heavily influenced by his relationship with Williams.
‘It’s more about me and Serena’: Drake
In the video, Drake is seen discussing the background of the track with his mother, Sandi Graham. Drake candidly states, “I get heavy on some joints, but this one is more about me and Serena,” suggesting that the song was written with the tennis superstar in mind.
He elaborated, “It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I make songs for them as well. So, I know what kind of song to make.”

He said, “If I’m going to talk about her, I’ll at least do her justice by making a song that she likes. So, I know Serena very well and I know she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she’s also not going to hate me for it because it’s light-hearted.”
During the conversation, Graham asked her son if “Serena” was “dating anyone else,” to which the five-time Grammy winner replied, “I don’t know, Mom.”
Serena Williams is happily married to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian
Serena Williams began dating her now-husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, in August 2015 after she and Drake were spotted sharing an intimate moment. However, sources at the time denied that the pair were officially dating. “Serena briefly dated Drake around 2011 and even though it didn’t go so well, they have remained friends ever since,” an insider told Page Six at the time.
The source also revealed that Drake has been supportive of Williams at several tennis tournaments, including Wimbledon in July 2015, where he was spotted sitting in the box with her sister Venus Williams.

Despite their past, Williams and Drake maintained a friendly relationship, even as she moved on to a new chapter of her life with Ohanian.
Williams and Ohanian married in a star-studded ceremony in November 2017, and the couple now also have their first daughter, Olympia.
