Drug Threat: Kerala Police held closed door talks with stakeholders of Malayalam film industry

The Kerala Police is ready to call a meeting of filmmakers, actors and distributors in Kochi on Saturday (April 26, 2025) to address alleged widespread use of drugs in the Kerala Police Entertainment Industry.

Manoj Abraham, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), law and order, told Hindu The misuse of that synthetic drugs burnt many famous celebrities and low-term artists and technicians with young demographic.

In addition, he said that the increased alcoholic risk has surrounded the industry. Shri Abraham also flagged the social risk of misuse of drug abuse.

Officials said the Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) were mandatory on the film set. She noted that harassment and trauma by two female artists had revealed, which she allegedly faced with drug-affected co-stars, underlining the need to work closely with law enforcement to such committees.

Surprise check

Meanwhile, the police have entrusted the District Anti-Nashi Special Action Force (DANSAF) units to collect actionable intelligence on smuggling networks on a profit smuggling network by supplying drugs to personality in the film industry.

In particular, customs in Kerala stopped some consignments of hybrid cannabis through airports hidden in food packets.

It has also seized a ganja parcel sent to a address in Kerala through an international air parcel in Kochi.
