The much awaited trailer of the upcoming Summer Games Fest 2024 Dune: Awakening The videogame features a big twist that will surely pique the interest of Frank Herbert fans. The open-world MMO places players in an alternate reality where the main character, Paul Atreides, was never born. Instead of following the familiar story, Dune: Awakening invites players to navigate a very different timeline on Arrakis.
The trailer, which is narrated by Paul Atreides himself, delves deep into the fantastical scenarios that inform the film. Dune universe. Imagine a world where Lady Jessica gave birth to a girl, or where Dr. Yueh’s betrayal was thwarted. Imagine the Atreides dynasty surviving the Harkonnen attack, or the Emperor taking control of spice production with his formidable Sardaukar.
Players will experience first-hand the harsh realities of survival on Arrakis. From surviving monstrous sandworms and deadly heat to crafting essential tools and harvesting precious water from enemies, the game offers a deeply immersive survival experience. Players will be given the option to align themselves with House Atreides or the Harkonnen, or live as a merchant or craftsman.
The visual aesthetics, heavily inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation, seem to bring the world of Arrakis to life. Players will also use iconic vehicles such as the Thopter, Thumper, and Sand Bike, and use voice to control enemies.
Dune: Awakening is set to release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will next release a gameplay reveal trailer in August 2024.
