English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed why he decided not to have a phone since 2015 and revealed that his team gives him one when he needs one, People reported. “I haven’t had a phone since 2015,” he said on a recent episode of the talk show Therapy with Jake Shane.
He revealed this when he shared his email address with host Jake Shane instead of his number. He said, “I don’t have a number,” and added, “…it doesn’t mean I’m cheating on you.”
He said his team recently gave him a phone that he can use when needed. “I have something to make videos that I can put on social media, but it’s not like having an active work phone.”
Sheeran said he made the decision to go phone-less in December after he saw how many connections he still had from before he became famous.
“I think I only had one number from the time I was 15, and then I became famous and I had 10,000 contacts on my phone that people were just messaging me with all the time. And I was constantly in touch with a lot of people.”
He said that the stress of repeatedly messaging people and sometimes not getting timely replies is the reason he adopted a phone-free policy in his life.
“I think when it comes to phones, everybody expects you to answer, and if you don’t answer, it’s rude,” he said.
“Sometimes you’re not in the mood to reply, you’re busy or doing something else, but then you reply, then they reply… and suddenly you’re in 40 conversations at once.”
“I was losing real-life conversations, so I gave up my phone, got an iPad, I moved everything to email, which I answer once a week,” he said, as People reports.
