Six months after Diljit Dosanjh made Ed Sheeran sing in Punjabi for the first time at his concert in Mumbai, the English popstar has now repaid the favour.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Birmingham leg of his ongoing Dil-Luminati tour had a familiar guest. Ed Sheeran also dropped by during the Indian popstar’s concert and the two performed together, bringing back memories on the internet from earlier this year in March when Diljit had helped Ed during a performance in Mumbai. ed sheeran is here oye
Diljit and Ed shared a joint reel on their Instagram handles on Monday morning, in which Diljit is seen performing in an all-white avatar at the Birmingham concert, when he shouts in his typical Punjabi style, “Ed Sheeran aa gaya oye” (Ed Sheeran has come), the live audience erupts in joy. Ed then enters the stage wearing a black T-shirt, dark grey track pants and light orange sneakers.
He played the guitar and sang his popular track The Shape of You before Diljit joined him. The Indian popstar sprang another surprise when he and Ed sang a mashup of The Shape of You and Rajesh A Krishnan’s hit song Naina from the recently released Bollywood blockbuster Heist Comedy Crew. They sat together while singing and ended their performance with a hug.
Internet response
Instagram users are overjoyed to see Diljit x Ed. One of them commented, “2024 is the year of epic collaborations.” Another wrote, “The best collaboration is back (fire emoji).” “Hahahaha Ed Sheeran nu poora Punjabi bana dena (You turn Ed Sheeran into full Punjabi) (laughing with tears emoji)”, a third commented, while a fourth asked if The Shape of You x Naina is available to listen somewhere.
Diljit and Ed’s first collaboration on stage happened earlier this year in March, when Ed performed in Mumbai. Diljit made a cameo on stage and sang his popular track Lover. Ed also joined him in the chorus, thus creating a historic pop culture moment when Ed Sheeran sang in Punjabi for the first time.
Diljit isn’t the only one who has collaborated with Ed recently. Last week, he also joined Arijit Singh on stage in London and the two sang the perfect song together.
