What did Ellen say?
Ellen explained, “When you’re a public figure, you’re open to everybody’s interpretation. And I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘What other people think of me is none of my business.’ Because people will say all sorts of things and you have no control over that. But you know the truth and that’s what matters most. If they like you, you’re in and if they don’t, you’re out. And I’ve spent my whole life trying to please people and I care way too much about what other people think of me. So, the idea of somebody thinking I’m mean was devastating to me and it ate at me for a long time. After a lifetime of caring, I just couldn’t care anymore. So I don’t.”
She added, “But if I’m being honest… and I have a choice of whether people remember me as a mean person or a beloved person. To be beloved? To be beloved? To be beloved. Someone who is beloved? I choose that.”
