Directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut, the film revolves around the 21-month emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
While Kangana Ranaut has played the role of Indira Gandhi in the film, Anupam Kher has played the role of Jayaprakash Narayan. Milind Soman is seen as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Vishakha Nair as Sanjay Gandhi and Mahima Chaudhary as Pupul Jayakar.

He said, “Of course I had financial problems while making the film. A lot of people backed out. No one was buying it. No OTT platform was willing to buy it. I had to rent out my house to make the film. Had to take a mortgage. Even after going through these issues, I had no one to go and cry to.
Kangana Ranaut further said, “I never had any PR team to promote myself. But people against me hired PR to damage my image. They randomly filed cases against me calling me psycho, witch, stalker. He said very bad things about me. No one speaks about a woman like that.”
