Emergency Trailer 2: Kangana Ranaut starrer highlights the ‘murder of democracy’ under Indira Gandhi

The trailer begins with Anupam Kher’s portrayal of Jaiprakash Narayan writing to Kangana Ranaut’s Indira Gandhi, reminding her that the post of Prime Minister is no longer just a throne, but a fierce lion whose roar will echo globally . This set the stage for Indira Gandhi’s decision to declare a national emergency, which was a significant moment in India’s post-independence history. The trailer is filled with imagery of institutional brutality, systemic violence and the ‘murder of democracy’.

At the center of the film is Indira Gandhi, described by the producers as “India’s most iconic… and controversial leader”, who passionately declares, “She is the Cabinet.” It sets up a narrative that promises to highlight the dark chapters of India’s past, the consequences of the former Prime Minister’s actions and the political maneuvering that led to such an important decision.


The trailer also introduces notable personalities like Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Shreyas Talpade), Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (Milind Soman) and Sanjay Gandhi (Vishakh Nair), who portray their respective roles with ease. While Kangana certainly looks the part of Indira Gandhi, her attempt to replicate the former Prime Minister’s voice may seem a little awkward.
