On July 11, the rapper took to X to give fans tips on how to stream the album for the best listening experience. In the tweet, the Grammy-winning songwriter said, “Public service announcement: “Death of Slim Shady” is a conceptual album, therefore, if you don’t listen to the songs in order they may not make sense. Enjoy.”
While the album may be one of the best he’s ever made, the marketing behind its release was just as brilliant. Prior to the official release, Em mocked the album with an absurd fake condolence message for Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press on May 14. The headline read, “Slim Shady leaves lasting impression.”

Additional previews of the new album were in the form of an advertisement that was played on TV during the NFL Draft in Detroit. The short video depicted the death of Slim Shady as a true crime show, an attempt to literally represent the album’s title.
