Emraan Hashmi has officially announced the sequel to his famous 2007 film Avrapan. Known for its prestigious soundtrack – especially the timeless hit Tera Meri Rishti – the original film left a permanent impression on the audience and has become a cult classic ever since.
From the title Awarapan 2, the sequel is slated to hit theaters on April 3, 2026. The original film, co-integrated Shriya Saran, ran a minor box office, but gradually gained large-scale popularity on digital platforms, resurrecting in recent years.
Speaking to News18 Showsha, Emraan revealed that the filming for Awarapan 2 would begin by the end of July 2025. In the last one year, Avarapan has witnessed renewed interest on social media, fans praised emotional depth and on-screen chemistry between the lead pair. However, Imran clarified that the sequel is not just a reaction to the recent discussion.
“Public demands for 15 years. The fan of that film is Aadhaar crazy!” Imran said.
He also shared a memorable fan encounter, in which his passion for the project was ruled: “About six months ago, a man contacted me in a coffee shop in Dubai. He had a tattoo dedicated to the ignorance, which symbolized a pigeon and freedom. When I gave a message to Shishu (Bhatt) and Makesh Bhatt ji and made anything right -“
Imran further revealed that the script has been working for almost two years: “We have been working on the script of the sequel for almost two years. We did not want to make just a sequel for this. It is just that we were happy with the script this year.”
While reflecting the film’s unexpected heritage, he said: “Avrapan raised over time through internet, YouTube, satellite and even torrent. Thus a big fan base developed in a film. The journey of a film does not end with theaters – if it is good, people will find it.”
Speaking about the permanent impact of the film, Imran said: “It was not a huge success in 2007, but today, it is definitely my most successful film. What it did not do at the box office, it has been done in the last 20 years. The film has been so well aged. My performance had a truth, and when I told myself-I want to do only performing films.”
With Awarapan 2 on the horizon, fans can expect a powerful continuity of a story that echoes deeply over the years. As an expectation is formed, all eyes are once again to recreate emotional magic on Emraan Hashmi.
