Mumbai: Neha Dhupia is taking bold steps to remove the stigma associated with menstrual health with her newly launched initiative, Gofloran. In an exclusive conversation with Zee News, Neha opened up about the inspiration behind the campaign, the need for action instead of words and the taboos that continue in society.
When Neha was asked about starting an awareness campaign about menstrual health, which needs to be talked about, she said, “More than speaking, we need to come out and do. This is a matter of coming out and doing.” It’s time to speak out, we have enough people who speak up and say we need change and I’m glad I came out.”
Adding to the stigmas that still exist around the menstrual cycle, Neha said, “Even today, conversations about the menstrual cycle are very taboo. I am very happy that the first event for Gloforan was so successful. I called many people Who actually came forward and lent their voices to Sonu Sood, Soha Ali Khan, Natasa Stankovic and others.”
He further added, “I’m still in the generation where sanitary napkins are given in black plastic bags, not much has changed. Now I know there’s a reason why it’s called a whisper. And it’s changing people’s lives.” Like us, we have toilets, and we have access, currently, I’m on an adventure shoot, where I’m going from one place to another, I’ve got a set when it comes to toilets. But women feel access and everything is difficult It happens.”
When asked about the agenda behind the initiative, she said, ‘Imagine that this is just one shooting in our lives, but imagine that there are women who go through this, there are girls who drop out of school and college. Because there are no toilets there. Even today, there are many taboos and stigmas related to periods. Who will break it? Who will generalize for women like her? I think this change is necessary.”
Neha is truly one of the influential female stars of Bollywood and congratulations to her for launching this campaign. Neha’s initiative is an inspiring step towards raising awareness and challenging social taboos. Her endeavor with GoFloRun is a call to action for everyone to contribute towards creating a world where menstrual health is no longer a taboo subject.
