Payal Kapadia’s movie We imagine everything as light Is on a roll. This film is continuously gaining recognition at the international level. The director recently sat down for an interview with NDTV and talked about his experience of working with Chhaya Kadam, Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti.
Payal said, “Working with three actors in this film – Chhaya Kadam, Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti – was the biggest thing for me. For me, it was my first film, and for them, they were very experienced actors. They were very generous and supportive of me – they worked together for three weeks, as if we were preparing for a theater production.
“It’s rare to find people who are so generous, especially actors who are so busy. I really think it’s because of them that this film came to life. They’re amazing actors and incredible human beings. We’re all friends now , and I’m really happy to know him and work with him.”
At this year’s Golden Globes, Payal Kapadia missed out on the coveted Best Director award. The film also lost an award in the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture category.
Additionally, the film has also been longlisted for three BAFTA awards. The British Academy recently revealed the longlist for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, where the film has been nominated in the categories of Best Director, Original Screenplay and Best Film in the English Language.
The film also earned a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards last month. The film starring Kani Kashruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridayu Haroon has made it to the competitive category Emilia Perez, Flow, I’m Still Here, Kneecap And sacred fig seed,
We imagine everything as light Last year it created history as the first Indian film to win the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. It has since received numerous prestigious honors, including the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Best International Feature at the Gotham Awards, and Best International Film at the New York Film Critics Circle.
Due to its growing recognition, following its initial theatrical release on 22 November, the film has been re-released in select Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bhubaneswar.
