Exclusive: Utkarsh Sharma talks about his journey, new film Vanvas, and why success and failure don’t define him

Mumbai: After his impressive performance as Sunny Deol’s son in the blockbuster Gadar 2, Utkarsh Sharma is gearing up for his next project, Vanvas. Starring veteran actor Nana Patekar, the film promises an entertaining story that excites Utkarsh to explore new dimensions as an actor. In an exclusive conversation with Zee News, Utkarsh opens up about his approach towards acting, the lessons he has learned from the industry and why he chooses to remain unaffected by success or failure.

On exile and its philosophy

Utkarsh revealed that work on Vanvas was underway even before Gadar 2 became a massive hit. “We were confident that regardless of the outcome of Gadar 2, we would make this film. I really loved the script and everyone on the set loved the story,” he said.

When asked about his choice of roles, Utkarsh told that after Gadar 2 he got many offers for action films, including a romantic action film which he has already signed, his priority is to find such stories. Who connect with the audience. “I want to keep exploring different roles as an actor,” he said.

How success has shaped him

Reflecting on the phenomenal success of Gadar 2, Utkarsh shared that it gave him the confidence to trust his instincts, but there was no change in his grassroots approach. “I have done a lot of theater and shows as an actor, and one thing I have learned is not to measure your work by success or failure. This industry is unpredictable—you never know what the audience will like. If you start treating your craft like a salesman, you will eventually become stressed and depressed.”

He stressed the importance of focusing on the process of storytelling rather than box office numbers. “Success is important, but it is not more important than the story. If your story is good, the audience will like it.

balancing ego and craft

Utkarsh also shared his belief in prioritizing the audience’s perspective over personal aspirations as an actor. “As an actor, you should not just look for scenes and dialogues to shine. I said yes to Vanvas not because my character is strong, but because its story is strong. People will connect with your character only when the story is attractive. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter how good your role is.”

The actor expressed his desire to do multi-starrer films, saying, “You have to do what the audience wants, and not show off what you can do.”

stay grounded

Utkarsh’s mature approach towards success and failure lies in his understanding of the volatile nature of the industry. “We have heard countless stories of actors who reached the pinnacle of success but later faced tragic lives. Movies are a journey and you should enjoy the process rather than worrying about the outcome.”

As he gears up for Vanvas and other projects, Utkarsh Sharma’s balanced approach and dedication to storytelling promises to make him a versatile and enduring presence in Indian cinema.
