Exclusive: We are what we eat, believe that Jackie Bhagnani, who loves her homegron organic vegies, shares her dream of supporting local farmers

Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April to create awareness about environmental reasons. This year, the subject was ‘our power, our planet’, which was calling everyone to unite around renewable energy so that we could cross clean electricity by 2030. After the line of protection and stability, many celebrities are doing their work by turning to homegron vegies and sustainable gardening. Actor Jackie Bhagnani told Zee News Digital How he swears to support his biological food and his big dream someday to support local farmers.

Q. Did you inspire you to turn to homegron vegies?

One. Both Rakul and I have a keen interest in health and welfare. Research has established that fertilizers used to achieve maximum yield in agriculture have high levels of chemicals. Chemicals in your food can give rise to many issues and if you can avoid or limit their use is a good idea. I strongly believe that we are what we eat and that is why we decided to establish a kitchen garden in that small place which we had. In Mumbai, you do not have a big place for gardening, but even though you can grow small amounts of vegetables and herbs for your consumption in containers, this is a good start. For us, there is no looking back, because taste and health quotients are now decisively better.

Q. How easy or difficult was the process of installing permanent gardening?

One. Honestly, it is not difficult, it is not difficult, because you just need healthy soil, organic manure, little research and passion! Horticulture and growing your own food can really be a very medical process because you see life emerging from a seed that you have planted and watered.

Q. Are you planning to support local farmers through any initiative?

One. It is my dream to do so. I don’t know how I will do it, or exactly what I will do but yes, I want, in some capacity, in the near future.

Q. What are the suggestions that you can share for others to take home gardening or switch to organic food?

One. Well, just start with confidence and some basic knowledge as it is not difficult to develop some percentage of your own food. All you need is such an open space – it can be a roof, or even a balcony. Just remember, where there is a desire, there is a way.
