‘Notes from Another Shore’, an exhibition showcasing works by artists from Kerala as well as contemporary Emarati art, began at Durbar Hall in Kochi on July 26 (Friday).

The month-long exhibition is being organised by Abu Dhabi-based Rizk Art Initiative in collaboration with Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Department of Cultural Affairs and Abu Dhabi Arts. Industry and Law Minister P. Rajeev inaugurated the exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajeev lauded the Rizk Art Initiative for giving international recognition to artists from Kerala.

Shafina Yusuf Ali, founder of Rizq Art Initiative, said the exhibition provides a platform for Indo-Arab cultural exchange, as well as opening new avenues for artists from Kerala and Arab countries. In his video message, Culture Minister Saji Cherian said the exhibition could become a global event.

The event also features a solo exhibition by artist Heshel Lamki, curated by Venetia Porter. Works by other contemporary Emirati artists Almaha Jarala, Samo Shalabi and Latifa Saeed, curated by Morad Montazami, are also on display.

Rizq Art Initiative had organised an exhibition of 27 artists including 14 from Kerala in the UAE. Bringing the works of UAE artists to Kochi is a continuation of that. The exhibition highlights the deep connections between Kerala and Arab cultures and the enduring friendship and historical ties between India and the UAE.

The event will also include panel discussions with renowned artists. Rizk Art Initiative also offers fellowships to encourage artists from Kerala. It also offers free training to West Asian artists at the agency’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The exhibition will conclude on August 18.
