Experience the morning music in Bengaluru with Anirudh Vyas’ Hindustani concert

The concept of time in Indian classical music implies that ragas are associated with specific times of the day. They should be played at particular times to evoke a particular mood or emotion. Morning ragas are associated with the redness of dawn. Carefully chosen for their soulful melodies, these ragas are designed to start the day with a sense of peace and possibility. Unlike their more energetic counterparts played at the end of the day, morning ragas are often introspective and calm, reflecting the quiet awakening of the world around us.

The Morning Raga Concert Series at Jagrati celebrates classical music performed by some of the finest Hindustani and Carnatic singers and instrumentalists. meeting Traditionally, these concerts focus on morning melodies and songs in celebration of new beginnings, light, and the dispelling of darkness.

In the upcoming music festival on June 16, Anirudh Vyas, disciple of revered Vidushi Shubhada Marathe of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana, will present a selection of morning ragas including Lalit, Vibhas and Deskar.

The performance is not just a display of technical prowess but also a heartfelt tribute to her lineage and the teachings of her guru Vidushi Shubhada Marathe. Raagas Aniruddha says, “Raag Lalit has a lot of scope for improvisation, while Raag Deskar has a lot of scope for expression.”

He says, “Morning is the best time to capture the essence of the day ahead. During my training, my guru used to prefer morning sessions, as the freshness of this time helps in learning and expressing these ragas.”

The Jaipur Atrauli Gharana, known for its complex and profound interpretations, offers a rich repertoire that they have learned from years of dedicated training. Their performances are not mere presentations, but an experience where each note and phrase is carefully crafted.

Aniruddha explains that the morning ragas Lalit, Vibhas and Deskar, bring unique qualities to every concert. Lalit, with its subtle nuances and balanced tonal modulations, evokes compassion and valour. Vibhas, known for its warmth and serenity, provides a calm auditory landscape, while Deskar, with its energetic and joyous nature, concludes the performance on a high note of valour and happiness.

He offers an introduction for those new to Hindustani classical music: “Raagas These are melodic compositions based on various tunes and melodies by the masters of old. They are the canvas on which we create, bringing out various colours and moods through compositions and improvisations.” This concert is an invitation to experience the depth and beauty of these ancient musical forms in an intimate setting, fostering a deep connection between artist and audience.
