In the Chennai Jazz scene, a legend Marten Visar believes that the city has always loved its music. “But today, it seems that it is craving a community,” he says.
When he played a concert filled with pixie jazz (an experiment imagining the music pleased by the pixes), a pack in Vinyl and Bru, for the audience, a cafe in Alwarpet could listen to the clanks of Katraley on March 8 with his frequent colleague Holler jetters on 8 March. How focused and calm it was to the audience. “What we played was not the mainstream even within the Jazz style. The audience was cross-general and cross-communicable. Most importantly, he was an audience who was ready to receive, ”he says.

Vinyl and Bru have been site for several intimate performances of Martine since they were opened in 2024. In addition to concerts, there are sessions to be held in interesting bands with huge music. One day, there is an incident in the cafe where Ms. Subbulakshmi’s favorite songs are being discussed. On the other, they try to understand the exotica – a style that takes people into a completely different, mythological world. The aura changes for each such gig. However, on most occasions, the lights are slow; The chairs are indicated in the direction of the artist; The phone is silent; And even rejection of craving chairs. Only claps, place for hoots, which heads and speaks for music.

Ragu, who runs a coffee shop, says that coffee is the mainstay here, this establishment is taking a music-world view because he likes to listen to good music. “Today, the music comes from the pocket but the sound from an LP and a vinyl record player is very different. Look how beautiful it is, ”he says that we listen to Fleetwood Mac and Miles Davis during the interview.

Vinyl and Bru’s audiences differ from the participant in the rush of the coffee shop. The crowd here is more old millennium. This is a one that calms a music experience. Although there are also overlap – many young people are often making a lot of comeback as cafes. A hearing experience with many other people, who has the same interest, is the greatest from experience. Ragu says that many people participating in the hearing sessions start in one corner, starting with timid. During later meetings, they open and soon become part of a community.

Vivek Ire, one of the four founders of Alternation, who hosted Marten’s gig on Saturday, says that he has also seen that people at this site are ready to pay for good music. He hopes that there are many more places in the city to support artists from here. However, for now, this fact that the site exists is enough.

Marten says that the March 8 incident is a reminder. “Music is a collective experience. One is often taken by the audience. The division falls at some point and they are a part of the set as much as I am, ”he says. “It is good to be in a place where musicians are seen,” they say.
