Fans unimpressed by Kendrick Lamar controversy as Drake, J. Cole post new music; ‘Boogeyman’ narrative takes over

The internet believes Kendrick Lamar is untouched, while his ultimate rivals – the other two of the ‘Big Three’ – Drake and J. Cole are facing a virtual slap in the face for releasing music without thinking it through, after coming out of a war of words that they have been embroiled in for over a month.

Even when the differences between the ‘Big Three’ are over, this continues.

A week ago, J. Cole unexpectedly joined Cash Cobain on his song ‘Grippy,’ rising above all the messy drama that spiraled out of control when Kendrick Lamar spit fire on his verse on Future’s ‘Like That.’ Although Cole made his exit before more gunfire broke out between the Pulitzer-winning hip-hop star and Drake, he did make his point by criticizing Lamar earlier on ‘7 Minute Drill.’ Staying true to the title of his mixtape that contained the song, Cole, in fact, later deleted it to get out of the messy controversy.

Kendrick and Drake kept hurling strong digs at each other, some more personal than others. While the ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker’s hits like ‘Push Ups’ and ‘Family Matters’ clearly kept the web hooked and the headlines, his first featured outing outside of that line-up crashed with a questionable crash.

Teaming up with relatively new Toronto artist Snowd4y, Drizzy created the song ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’, which is a parody of Plain White T’s 2005 hit track. Just like Cole’s ‘Grippy’, Drake’s latest beat also faced criticism from fans.

Reactions to Drake and J. Cole’s first music releases since Kendrick Lamar controversy

Fans’ lips pursed in disdain, while many chose to push these releases aside after hearing the iconic rappers’ tunes. Some even went so far as to hail Kendrick Lamar as the “boogeyman” who supposedly intimidated his rivals, resulting in these nonsensical deliveries. Many stood by the proposition that Lamar had conquered their minds, and that the mental burden was indeed too much for Drake and Cole to bear.

Yet, when the army of hip-hop fans gathered to poke fun at them, hardly anyone thought that the two artists were probably just venting. After all, they have just come out of a major war in the Dis-verse. Whatever the case, the internet, as usual, continues to fabricate stories around Cole and Drake, who probably just wanted to have some fun.

Given the current climate of the hip-hop world, you never know when the next feud of peace-destroying rhymes might start up again. The spark is still burning, especially after Drake’s May 2024 post of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “The Heart Part 6” was deleted from Instagram.
