New Delhi: This year Father’s Day was celebrated on Sunday, June 16. Remembering this special day, let’s take a look at the famous father-daughter pairs who have enriched the world of entertainment with their contributions.
Alia Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt
At a TV show celebrating the life and work of director Mahesh Bhatt, Alia who was a teenager at the time, declared that she would become an actress one day. Surprisingly, she did not believe her father even though Bhatt had done the work of introducing Anupam Kher, Rahul Roy, Anu Aggarwal and many others. Bhatt emerged as a major cinematic voice in the 80s and 90s with films like ‘Arth’, ‘Saaransh’, ‘Naam’, ‘Daddy’, ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’, ‘Sadak’ and many more. Alia has inherited his passion for cinema and since her debut in ‘Student of the Year’, has emerged as a powerful actor with hits like ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Raazi’, ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Highway’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. She has also ventured into filmmaking in 2022 with the black comedy ‘Darlings’. The father and daughter duo have also worked together in ‘Sadak 2’.
Shreya and Sachin Pilgaonkar
Sachin Pilgaonkar began his career as a child artiste in 1962 and went on to star in several successful films including ‘Geet Gaata Chal’, ‘Balika Vadhu’, ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ and ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’ as the solo lead. The actor, who has also made a name for himself in Marathi cinema as a director, is now proudly watching his daughter Shreya establish herself as a critically acclaimed actor in cinema, theatre and the OTT space. Shreya has featured in films such as Zee Theatre’s teleplay ‘Internal Affairs’, OTT hits ‘Guilty Minds’, ‘Broken News’, ‘Mirzapur’ and ‘Fan’. Sonam and Anil Kapoor
Sonam was just a little girl in the early 90s when she first appeared on camera with her father in a public service song. Anil Kapoor, who started with small roles in the late 70s, had by now become a major star with hits like ‘Parinda’, ‘Karma’, ‘Mr India’, ‘Tezaab’ and ‘Ram Lakhan’. He remains a much sought-after actor today and is also a successful producer. Sonam, his first child, began her career as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film ‘Black’ and debuted as an actor with Saawariya (2007). Shikha and Tiku Talsania
Tiku Talsania is a film, theatre and television veteran who rose to fame with Doordarshan’s popular comedy ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ in 1984. He also appeared in several TV shows and hit films like ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’, ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ ‘Ishq’ and ‘Devdas’. His daughter Shikha Talsania has also made a name for herself in projects like Zee Theatre’s teleplay ‘Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti’ and ‘Internal Affairs’. She was also appreciated in hits like ‘Wake Up Sid’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, ‘Coolie No. 1’ and ‘I Hate Luv Storys’.
Rajeshwari and Inderjit Sachdev
Rajeshwari Sachdev’s father Indrajit Sachdev is a theatre veteran who appeared in several Doordarshan shows in the 80s and also had a strong association with the People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). Being associated with theatre since childhood, Rajeshwari chose to become a professional actor just like her father. She acted on stage as well as in cinema and also appeared in Zee Theatre’s teleplay ‘Double Game’. Her work includes films like ‘Sardar Begum’, ‘Sooraj Ka Satvaan Ghoda’, ‘Mammo’, ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero’, ‘Welcome to Sajjanpur’ and many others. She also appeared in the film ‘Triyacharitra’ with her father.
