The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has said that it will decide on a ban on actor Darshan after the completion of police investigation into the case against him. Darshan was on Tuesday sent to six-day police custody in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy of Chitradurga district.
Following the controversial development that shook the Kannada film industry, there were strong demands for a ban on the actor. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, KFCC president NM Suresh said the film chamber would wait for the conclusion of the police investigation before banning Darshan.
“First of all, the KFCC will meet the aggrieved family of Renukaswami and plan to provide them financial assistance,” Mr. Suresh said. “As far as the decision to ban darshan is concerned, we will wait for the conclusion of the police investigation before taking a final decision on this,” Mr. Suresh said.
Mr. Suresh said the KFCC met members of the Karnataka Kalavidra Sangha, Kannada Film Producers Association and Karnataka Film Directors Association to discuss the issue. “Darshan has a few films. We should think from the producers’ point of view. Crores of rupees are at stake. So, we cannot take a decision in a hurry,” Mr. Suresh said.
