New Delhi: Film director Sanoj Mishra, famous for his film ‘The Dairy of West Bengal’, is reported missing. Mishra’s film based on the violent incidents in West Bengal has given rise to a lot of controversy and debate, due to which the filmmaker has also received many threats.
The situation worsened after the film’s trailer was released, following which the West Bengal government filed a legal case against Mishra. In response, Mishra went to Kolkata on 14 August to attend a court hearing related to the case.
Bollywood actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut drew attention to Mishra’s plight through her Instagram story. Sharing a photo of the filmmaker, Ranaut wrote, “He is Sanoj Kumar Mishra, he has directed a film called The Diary of West Bengal. After the trailer of his film was released, Mamata Banerjee government filed a case against him and he went to Kolkata on 14th August to attend the court hearing of the same.”
Kangana further added, “He reached Kolkata and went missing. His wife is calling me everyday, she is very sad, last night she left for Bengal. I request @mamataofficial to help the poor lady find her husband. Thank you.”
The film, which is scheduled to release on August 30, has been criticised a lot, which has increased Mishra’s stress. In a recent Instagram post, Mishra expressed his growing distress: “Saathiyon film The Diary of West Bengal ki release date 30 August hai, meri dussehen bahut badh rahi hai main bahut hi manasik pressure mein hoon” which translates to “Friends, as the release date of the film The Diary of West Bengal has been finalised as August 30, my troubles are increasing a lot, I am under a lot of mental pressure.”
The case has attracted considerable attention, with many people raising questions about the circumstances of his disappearance and the possible involvement of outside forces.
