Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on Monday left his presence before Andhra Pradesh’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) for questioning in a case related to a Telugu film released in 2019.
Verma sent his lawyer to the CID office in Guntur and asked for eight weeks to come in front of CID officials.
RGV, as well known as the noted director, is told to CID officials that he could not appear to him as he was busy in the film promoting.
CID is likely to issue a new notice to the filmmaker on Tuesday.
CID had earlier issued a notice to RGV, in which he was directed to appear in front of it on 10 February. He was called in the past for questioning in connection with the complaint lodged by a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader.
The case is related to the 2019 film ‘Kamamma Rajyamlo Kadpa Reddalu’ (Kadapa Reddis Under Kamma Rule) directed by RGV. The controversial film played the role of the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan.
The TDP’s youth wing, Telugu Yuvath’s state spokesperson Bandaru Vamsicrisna filed a complaint with the CID on November 29, 2023, alleging that the film had hurt public sentiments. Based on this complaint, CID registered a case against Verma.
Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s supporter RVV has faced an investigation into some cases registered against him since the TDP -led coalition government came to power in June last year.

RVV was questioned for about nine hours, which was done by Srikanth Babu, Circle Inspector of Ongol Rural Police Station and his team.
The police officer informed the filmmaker that he could be called again for further questioning in the case.
The film director claimed that he attended a police station for the first time in his life. “I love Ongol and I love the Ongol police even more,” RVG posted a selfie with a glass of water with a selfie on a social media platform.
