One of the most anticipated awards season moments of the year has arrived. Oscar nomination day. Ahead of the announcements, which will be released on January 22 at 7 p.m. ET, let’s take a look at the chances of some of the hottest titles poised to earn double-digit nominations and make Academy Awards history.
After one battle another battle is ready to rule
Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic One Battle After Another has practically swept all the prequels leading up to the Oscars. At the Golden Globes, the film won Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) and Best Director, with Teyana Taylor also winning Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress.
At the Oscars, the film has a high chance of scoring nominations in all four acting categories for its five actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor. In doing so, the film could become the 16th film in the awards history to be nominated in all four acting categories. The last film to do so was American Hustle in 2013.

What are India’s homebound prospects?
All eyes will be on the Best International Feature Film category, where India’s Homehound will compete for a spot. Like every year, this is one of the hardest categories to fill, and the Academy loves to surprise. So far, the leading titles are undoubtedly Norway’s Sentimental Value, Brazil’s The Secret Agent, France’s It Was Just an Accident and Spain’s Serata. The fifth position is where Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound can enter.
Some of the other major titles joining the nomination list include Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, Jon M Chu’s Wicked: For Good and Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams.
