World Premiere of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash premiered at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Monday night, with Hollywood’s top stars in attendance. Selected journalists and film critics from around the world also attended the premiere. Following the screening, many of these critics shared their first reactions about the highly anticipated film on social media and so far, the response is overwhelmingly positive.
First reactions to Avatar Fire and Ash
in his first post Avatar 3 on Twitter (now X), critics have praised the film’s visuals, James Cameron’s sweeping narrative, and said the film should please fans of the first two Avatar films.
Variety’s Jazz Tangke called the film ‘a stunning feat of moviemaking’. He added, “James Cameron has raised the stakes. It’s bigger, better and more emotional than ever before. It’s got gorgeous visuals, thrilling new characters and it’s a technical marvel.” His colleague Courtney Howard echoed this sentiment, saying that Avatar Fire and Ash was ‘what movie theaters were made for’. He wrote, “James Cameron’s 3 films still have the juice that makes epics emotionally impactful.”
Film critic Shawn Tazipur admitted that he was not a superfan of Avatar, but still acknowledged that “James Cameron can and will always deliver the ultimate cinematic spectacle, taking visuals and emotion to new heights and redefining the feeling of a true blockbuster. It’s bold, immersive, unforgettable, and utterly driven by ambition.”
Collider correspondent Perry Nemiroff was surprised by how quickly the film draws viewers back into the world of Pandora. “And once that happens, certain aspects of the production increase significantly in complexity. Three movies in and I still can’t get over how magical the #Avatar movies are,” he wrote. Critic Todd Gilchrist said, “#AvatarFireAndAsh features some astonishing filmmaking from James Cameron. Fans of the previous two will be very pleased.”
Praising the film’s ‘out-of-this-world action’, film critic Michael Lee wrote, “The story may be lacking, but it pushes technical boundaries in unimaginable ways.”
All about Avatar Fire and Ashes
Avatar: Fire and Ash sees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dilip Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Trinity reprise their roles from the previous two films. The film will be released in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It will be released in theaters worldwide on December 19.
