First-time Union minister of state and actor Suresh Gopi hints at being relieved from cabinet a day after swearing-in ceremony

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor-politician Suresh Gopi, who was sworn in as a minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government a day ago, has hinted that he may be “relieved from the Cabinet” soon.

The actor-politician won the Thrissur constituency in the 2024 parliamentary elections and created history as the first BJP Lok Sabha MP from Kerala.

Gopi, who became the face of the ‘Modiwood Guarantee’ promise for Kerala during the elections, was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in the government of Prime Minister Modi, who took oath for his third consecutive term at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.

The 65-year-old actor defeated advocate and CPM candidate VS Sunilkumar from the Thrissur parliamentary seat by 74,686 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first election roadshow in Thrissur in December last year and later the Prime Minister also made another visit to the constituency to attend the wedding of Gopi’s daughter at Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple.

On June 4, the day the election results came out and indicated his victory, he told ANI that he was very happy. “I am absolutely happy. What was impossible has become possible in a spectacular way… It was not a 62-day campaign process, it was an emotional journey of the last 7 years… I work for the whole of Kerala. My first choice would be AIIMS…”.

Apart from Suresh Gopi, senior BJP leader George Kurien was also inducted into the Council of Ministers as Minister of State on Sunday.
