A24’s new production starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield moved not only the audience but also the cast of We Live in Time. The film revolves around the couple played by Pugh and Garfield, in which Pugh is diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage 3 and has a daughter. The entire room at the Princess of Whales Theater in Toronto was filled with tears during the World TIFF Premiere.

Florence Pugh in tears

In a Q&A session after the screening, Pugh was seen crying softly when she said, “It was so amazing, so fulfilling shooting this movie. Watching it…it’s like life is unfolding and we’re all doing it right now,” reports Deadline. Since it’s a non-linear film, the audience will get a chance to experience the highs of the struggling couple in one frame and their lows in the next. The film will give the audience a roller coaster ride from experiencing the moment to the struggles of Pugh’s character Almut along with his struggles.

Talking about the making of the film, Garfield said, “We wanted to put a surrender, a trust and a letting go into this movie, and that’s the theme of the movie. There were moments tonight that affected me in a way I never have before. (It’s) about two guys who just want to live.”

Garfield and Pugh talk about working with Crowley

The film is directed by Bafta award-winning filmmaker John Crowley and the actors have spoken openly about their experience with Crowley. Pugh said Crowley provided “two weeks of special, beautiful time. We’d talk about scenes, how we felt, John would stop it when it got too exciting.”

Garfield, who worked with Crowley in 2007, said the birth scene was sacred to everyone. “It was hard to leave that place,” he said. “Without the security I couldn’t do any of it. Neither of us would be here without John and the space he gave us,” Pooch said.
