New Delhi: Falguni Pathak, the voice behind many 1990s pop songs such as “Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi” and “Maine Payal Hai Chhankai”, says she doesn’t shy away from working in films, but feels more at home on stage.
Pathak said that he has been performing in live shows since the age of nine.
She is “satisfied” with what she does.
“I don’t avoid it… the songs I’ve sung since I was a kid, from the age of nine… the live shows I’ve done.
“I am feeling very happy and satisfied. When it comes to playback singing, you have to run around a bit more. Meeting this person, meeting that person, going to the studio and sitting there for hours. I am a bit lazy in that regard,” the 55-year-old singer told PTI.
Pathak, who has made a name for herself as an artiste performing live shows during festivals like Navratri, has also worked in films.
The title song from her debut album “Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi” was used in the 1999 film “Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin” starring Sunny Deol, Mahima Chaudhary and Apoorva Agnihotri.
She also has film songs like “Badan Juda Hote Hain” from the 1999 film “Koyla”, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit Nene, and “Aha Aha” from the 2002 film “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum”, starring Hrithik Roshan, Esha Deol and Saif Ali Khan to her credit.
Known for her independent music hits such as ‘Pal Pal Teri Yaad’, ‘Aiyo Rama Hath Se’, ‘Meri Chunar Ud Ud Jaye’ and ‘Sawan Mein Morni’, the ‘Dandiya Queen’s’ legacy continues to this day.
He said, “I am happy that today’s generation also likes these songs of mine.”
“Tera Mera Pyar Sanam” holds a special place for fans, a rare collaborative single created by Pathak and Bombay Vikings vocalist Neeraj Shridhar.
She said, “I am feeling very happy, emotional and blessed. It’s the joy of a good tune, good lyrics and a simple video. Of course, people will love it. Simplicity.”
What are the key elements she keeps in mind while creating new songs?
“The tune should be catchy, it should have a good melody and it shouldn’t have any double meaning lyrics. These are the most important things,” he said.
Pathak, who has been singing since the age of four, cited fans as her source of inspiration.
“My audience, my fans… they wait for me every year.”
Her latest work is “Rangara”, a Colors anthem, which she has sung in collaboration with Aditya Gadhvi of “Khalasi” fame. Produced by Night Song Records, the track is composed by Achint Thakkar and Nirmit Shah and lyrics are penned by Saumya Joshi. It was released on YouTube last month.
