LOS ANGELES: Months after Matthew Perry’s death, at least one person has been arrested in connection with the “Friends” star’s death.
More details will be shared at a press conference in Los Angeles, Variety reported, citing the Los Angeles Times.
Perry was found dead in the hot tub of her LA home on October 28, 2023, and traces of the drug ketamine were found in her body.
At the time, it was ruled an accidental overdose. But in May, the LAPD said they were working with federal authorities to investigate the source of the ketamine.
According to the LA Times, those being investigated have been served with search warrants and evidence has been seized. Federal charges have been filed against several people, including one who has a medical license, the Times reports.
First responders were initially called to Perry’s home for a cardiac arrest, but the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office found that he died of “the acute effects of ketamine.” According to Variety, other causes included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine (a medication used to treat opioid use disorder).
Perry’s death shocked everyone. His ‘Friends’ co-stars Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow released a joint statement expressing their grief over Perry’s death.
A statement released by his personal representatives said, “We are all deeply saddened by Matthew’s passing. We were more than just fellow actors. We were family. There is so much more to say, but for now we are taking some time to grieve and accept this irreparable loss.”
“In time we will provide more information, when possible. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and all those who loved him around the world,” the statement said.
Perry was 54 when he breathed his last.
