Diljit Dosanjh creates history at Coachella
In April 2023, Diljit became the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Coachella Music Festival. His name was part of the star-studded lineup of the first weekend that included artists and groups such as Blackpink, Charli XCX, Labrinth and Kid Laroi.
Dressed all in black traditional attire and a turban, Diljit announced on stage, “This is now history. Punjabis have come, we have reached Coachella. And those who don’t understand my songs, understand this.”
Diljit’s Dil-Luminati Tour is breaking records
On May 24, Diljit performed a show at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, which sold out all the tickets. He was later presented with jerseys of the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars and the National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks. He was also asked to sign a framed poster of his show, which would later be displayed at the venue. The representative in charge explained that it is a tradition for all artists who perform sold-out concerts in their arena, which can entertain around 20,000 people – a great achievement indeed.
In April this year, Diljit performed another show at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada, which could accommodate over 54,000 people. This feat made this special edition of the Dil-Luminati Tour the biggest Punjabi concert outside India. As Diljit repeatedly says, “Punjabi aage oye”.
He has made the world dance to his tunes
Although international crossovers and collaborations aren’t really surprising anymore, the pace at which Diljit is churning out one superhit track after another with arguably the most illustrious list of international singers and rappers tells why he is the GOAT, just like his album. Palpita with Colombian singer Camilo, laugh laugh with cheap Thrills Singer Sia Or Khutti Along with rapper Sweety, Diljit is committed to make the whole world dance to Punjabi pop.
Although this is not a formal collaboration, Ed Sheeran too has fallen under the spell of Diljit’s music. Music giants have praised Diljit’s songs Lover At a music festival held in Mumbai in March.
During an interview with Billboard in 2020, Diljit had revealed that he has no bucket list and is always grateful for how far he has come so far. He said, “I am already living the dream” – something that is getting sweeter for Diljit by the minute.
