fukery Actor Manjot Singh says, “It is not necessary to portray Sikhs in light-hearted or comical roles”

New Delhi:

fukery fame Manjot Singh, who was last seen in the Netflix original Wild Wild Punjab, recently spoke about playing serious roles in Bollywood. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “I think how people see you in the industry depends on your position. You have to do something, only then the perception changes in people’s minds. And for that to happen, one should get those opportunities,” adding that there should not be exclusive roles for “Sikh actors”. “While writing scripts, the thinking should not be like this – one is an actor and one is a Sardar actor. I want to eliminate that difference, a Sikh and a non-Sikh, both can be cast. Especially if the Sardar character is there, then only will they be called, this hurts me.”

The 32-year-old actor said, “I have set an example for myself by playing the alpha male in this film. I had been fighting with the makers for so many years to get something serious done. It is not necessary to show Sikhs in light-hearted or comic roles, they can do serious roles as well. Diljit Dosanjh is a great example for everyone. His choice of scripts is very good.”

“When I entered the industry, my mother also said, ‘Son, don’t make fun of your Sikhism, for fame or money, your respect is in your hands’. So, I have done comedy films that had funny situations, but I never made fun of myself and my religion to make people laugh. I hope people in the industry will see a changing side of me with this authoritative role,” the actor added.

The actor made his Bollywood debut in 2008 with Lucky Oye.
