New Delhi: Veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma, best known for his iconic blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, returns with his latest project Vanvas, a heartfelt family drama starring Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles. Released on December 20, 2024, the film marks a departure from Sharma’s signature high-octane action dramas, offering a more intimate and personal story.
In a recent interview, the director shared his thoughts on exile and his evolving approach towards filmmaking. Reflecting on the immense success of Gadar 2, Sharma expressed his desire to create something that would resonate on a deeper, more personal level. He said, “I thought, Gadar has given me a lot. Now, as a director, my job is to make a family film that I can give to the audience.”
The idea of exile came to Sharma after talking to Nana Patekar. ‘When I was thinking about making Vanvas, I also got a call from Nana and he asked, ‘Now will you do this film or start a big action film?’ I told him I will do it, and only with Nana sir, because I feel like it has to be done with him, we had already talked about it during Gadar 2,” Sharma recalled.
For the director, Vanvas represents more than just a film – it is an intensely personal creation. He said, “Some films like Gadar you make for the public. Sometimes you make an exile for yourself.”
The emotional depth of Vanvas has impressed audiences, with many praising the film’s powerful performances and storytelling. Sharma expressed satisfaction at the positive reception, saying, “Now people are liking it; I am very happy.”
Produced and directed by Anil Sharma, Vanvas is his third collaboration with Zee Studios after the success of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Gadar 2. With its release, Vanvas is set to provide the audience with a fresh and heartfelt cinematic experience.
Written, produced and directed by Anil Sharma, the film stars a stellar cast including Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur. It was released in theaters on 20 December 2024 under the banner of Zee Studios Worldwide.
