Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Lord Ganesha’s Grand Festival Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated all over India, especially with great dedication and joy in Maharashtra. The festival begins with the installation of the idol of Lord Ganesha and ends with Visarajan (immersion of the idol), which can be on different days such as 1.5 days, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days and at the end Anant Chaturdashi (10th/11th day).
While Anant Chatradashi is considered the most important day for immersion, many families performed Visarjan on the third day with similar devotion and reverence. It is believed that the performance of Ganesh immersion in the days of odd numbers like 3, 5th or 7th day holds spiritual significance, as it is a symbol of auspicious start and blessings.

Rituals of Ganesh Visarajan on the third day
1. Morning Puja and Aarti
On Visarajan Day, devotees get up early, clean their homes and altars, and perform Ganesh worship with flowers, fruits, coconut and sweets (especially modak, Ganesh’s favorite). Special prayers and aarti are offered before bidding farewell.
2. North worship (farewell ritual)
Before taking the idol for immersion, devotees worship north, a ritual where Lord Ganesha is requested to return to his heavenly residence. This indicates gratitude for their appearance at home for three days.
3. Harshit procession and bhajan
The idol is taken in a colorful procession with the mantras of “Ganapati Bappa Morya, Pudchaya Varashi Lavkar Yes” (come soon next year, Lord Ganesha). The atmosphere is full of music, dance and devotion because families and communities are included.
4. Idol immersion (immersion)
Finally, the idol sinks into a water body–the ponds of the sea, lake, or environment-friendly ponds-while praying for prosperity, knowledge and peace. Environmentally friendly idols are highly recommended to protect the environment.
Importance of 3-day Ganesh Visarajan
It is believed that on the third day, Vizarjan is demonstrated to bring quick blessings from Lord Ganesha.
It symbolizes the contingent, teaches us that material things are temporary while devotion and good work remain eternal.
Families believe that Bappa removes obstacles, blesses with prosperity, and ensures peace in the house.
Ganesh Chaturthi is not just a religious festival, but also a celebration of unity, happiness and devotion. The third day immersion in 2025 falling on 31 August is a heartfelt way for devotees to bid farewell to Lord Ganesha, while seeking their blessings for the coming year.
As we prepare to welcome Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, let us celebrate love, devotion and environmentally friendly practices to ensure both spiritual and environmental harmony.
