What did George Clooney say?
Clooney, who couldn’t attend the event due to commitments in Venice, praised Blanchett in his own video, saying, “Acting is a profession, and then acting is an art. We recognize that art… I’ve been lucky enough to direct you and act with you, and you always make everyone around you feel lucky.”

In her acceptance speech, Blanchett reflected on her international career.
Expressing her gratitude to San Sebastian, she said, “As an Australian working overseas, I have had the privilege of being lifted up by the bodies of many people… it has taken me all over the world, and now to the Basque Country, to this extraordinary vibrant festival.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blanchett also expressed a serious concern: “It’s shocking to me that there’s too much certainty in the world, too much righteousness and too much lack of doubt… I worry that we’re trying to find answers too quickly, and it’s that uncertainty that keeps me going.”
This year, Blanchett is attending the San Sebastian Film Festival for the first time, which runs from September 20-28.
Although his films have been screened at the festival before, including “Babel” (2007) and “Veronica Guerin” (2003), the Donostia Award honour marks an important milestone in his illustrious career.
Blanchett now joins the handful of actors to have received the Donostia Award, joining Hugh Jackman who was given the award in 2013.
This year’s festival also honored major Spanish figures including Javier Bardem and Pedro Almodóvar, further highlighting the celebration of cinematic excellence.
