what did the director say
During the interview, Ridley Scott clearly explained the reason and said, “Obviously, the plot was right under our noses. I think it was so close under our noses that we thought it was very simple. I think he’s still one of the best actors in the world, and I think we have a good relationship. I hope that remains the case. Unless he starts complaining that he wasn’t consulted. Why would I? He’s dead!”
He also added, “This is the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s pure powerhouse brutal action.”
More information
For those who don’t know, at the end of the original Gladiator, Russell Crowe’s character Maximus dies and imagines meeting his wife and son in the afterlife.
Meanwhile, Russell spoke openly about his doubts over a sequel when he appeared on US podcast Kyle Meredith With…, saying: “I’m a little uncomfortable with the fact that they’re making another one – because, of course, I’m dead and I don’t have a say in what gets done. But from what I’ve heard, I think – no, no, no, it doesn’t delve into that particular character’s moral journey. But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six feet under. So we’ll see how it goes.”
Gladiator 2 will release in India on November 15.
