‘Gladiator 2’ reveals first look at Ridley Scott’s epic sequel with Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and more

Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated sequel the Gladiator has finally released the first look photos, giving fans a glimpse of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal’s new roles. Vanity FairFeaturing Mescal as Lucius, the elder son of Lucia, played by Connie Nielsen, and Pascal as the formidable Roman general Acacius.

Paul Mescal will be reprising his role as Lucius, a character introduced as a child in the 2000 film. The film’s plot will reportedly follow his tumultuous relationship with his mother Lucilla. Vanity FairLucius is living in Numidia, North Africa, far from the political intrigues of Rome, but his peaceful life is disrupted by invading armies from his homeland.

Pedro Pascal, best known for his role in the recent HBO show The Last of Usjoins the cast as Acacius, a powerful Roman general.

In addition to Pascal and Mescal, the film also features a stellar supporting cast including Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn. Washington plays a former slave turned wealthy merchant, dressed in opulent gold robes, while Quinn plays co-emperor Caracalla, complete with a dramatic wig.

Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucilla, returning to the franchise after more than two decades. Derek Jacobi also returns as Senator Gracchus, connecting the continuity from the original film. Fred Hechinger also appears as co-emperor Geta, replacing Barry Keoghan due to scheduling conflicts.

Gladiator 2 Themes of survival, power struggles and the resilience of the human spirit are discussed in depth. Mescal hinted that the film will explore both physical battles in the arena and political machinations outside of it. The sequel is set to arrive in UK cinemas on November 15, a week earlier than its initial release date.
