About the trailer
The three-minute-long trailer begins with an introduction to Paul Mescal’s grown-up Lucius. He is the nephew of the late Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). Lucius is now living in the North African region of Numidia. “I remember that day. I never forgot it, that a slave could take revenge on an emperor,” he says in a flashback.
When he is taken captive, and eventually pushed back into the arena by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), an epic battle begins. Don’t miss Denzel Washington as well, who plays a wealthy arms dealer and strikes a rapport with Lucius right from the start. The trailer ends on a spectacular note, right when a full-speed face-off between Lucius and Marcus is about to begin.
