Glen Powell has once again scored a commercial hit with Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters with a successful opening weekend. The American disaster film surpassed the box office collection of Godzilla x Kong ($80 million). Twisters beats Godzilla x Kong at the domestic box office
As the weekend approached, the film was expected to gross between $50 million and $55 million. Twisters scored the third-biggest opening weekend of the year, surpassing “Godzilla vs. Kong” ($80 million) but falling behind “Inside Out 2” ($154 million) and “Dune: Part Two” ($82 million). The production cost of Twisters was $155 million. This amount does not include the large expenses allocated for marketing. Universal Pictures backed the film and released it domestically, while Warner Bros. holds the rights for an international release.

Even though Twisters quickly became the country’s top film, it faced tough comparisons from the same weekend in 2023. However, after a slow start to the summer, the box office is finally picking up speed thanks to several hugely successful blockbusters like Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, and A Quiet Place: Day One. About Twisters
Lee, best known for the Oscar 2021 nominated American drama Minari, has directed Twisters which is a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster epic of the same name. Glenn, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos play storm chasers in the film who find themselves in the fight of their lives as multiple tornadoes converge on central Oklahoma. The film also stars Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney and Sasha Lane in pivotal roles.
Twisters is released worldwide on 19 July.
