Actress Sonam Kapoor went on a tennis court date with her husband Anand Ahuja on Saturday. The ‘Neerja’ star was spotted watching the Wimbledon women’s final in London with Anand. Both the husband and wife were dressed in formals and were fashion forward.
Sonam chose an outfit from Bottega Veneta that consisted of a striped skirt and matching top. Her look was perfectly completed by black colored Tex Mule shoes, which were from the Pre-Fall 24 collection. Anand also looked handsome in a grey shirt and black trousers.
Before heading to the stadium, Sonam shared a video in which she expressed her excitement to watch the match. In another video, Anand is seen asking her, “Where are we going?” and Sonam replies, “Wimbledon, women’s final.”
A video of Sonam was also shared on the official Instagram page of Wimbledon.
“It’s always magical and exciting to be in this place,” Sonam said in the clip.
Talking about the match, Barbora Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final of the women’s singles competition to clinch her first Wimbledon and second Grand Slam title overall.
Krejcikova defeated Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in a close title match that lasted one hour and 56 minutes.
Krejcikova has now improved her win-loss record in finals to 12 of 13 wins in majors, a 2-0 record in singles, including the French Open title, 3-0 in mixed doubles and just one loss in eight doubles games overall. She also won an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
Krejcikova was at a loss for words after her win, describing the title triumph as “the best day of her life”.
“I have no words. What just happened is unbelievable. The best day of my tennis career – and the best day of my life,” he said.
Krejcikova is the fourth Czech woman to win the women’s title at Wimbledon in the Open Era. Only her one-time mentor Yana Novotna, Petra Kvitova and last year’s champion Marketa Vondrousova have won the title before her. During her victory, Krejcikova hit 28 winners and made 37 unforced errors, which reflected her aggressive game. The newly crowned champion said she has to improve everything.
“I think I’ve definitely gotten better on faster surfaces. I think I had to develop my game because everyone is developing their game. I mean, it’s great that it feels like I’ve made some progress, I’m in another final,” she said after reaching the final. Krejcikova is ranked 32nd in the world rankings and is the second-lowest ranked player to win the Wimbledon women’s singles title since the WTA rankings were introduced in 1975.
“It’s unbelievable,” Krejcikova said, looking at the glittering Venus Rosewater dish in her hands. “I’m standing here. I’m the Wimbledon winner,” she added.
