Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, known for his comic timing and iconic performances in films like ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Coolie No. 1’ and ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’, has hit out at filmmaker Karan Johar for using his name and depicting aspects of his personal life in the 2022 film ‘Govinda Naam Mera’.
Hinting at Karan Johar, he told ANI, “Somebody made the picture in my name..maybe Govinda Mera Naam (‘Govinda is my name’)..I don’t know..mujhe lagta hai Karan Johar ki thi (I think it was made by Karan Johar).”
‘Govinda Naam Mera’ is a 2022 film directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Shashank Khaitan. The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani.

The actor said the film, based on a husband, wife and girlfriend, depicts the fights between couples and the misunderstandings that arise in personal relationships.
He said that although he appreciates humor in films, it is important to maintain respect and sensitivity when portraying personal relationships. Urging people not to interfere in his personal life, Govinda shared, “..I promise, please no one will misbehave. I beg with folded hands. Jokes don’t go well everywhere in every way…”

Govinda also talked about supporting his son Yashvardhan Ahuja’s career in films, expressing confidence in his acting abilities and highlighting his strong technical understanding of the craft.
Expressing confidence in his son’s ability, he shared, “Yash will become a better actor than me. He is technically stronger than me..he is much bigger than me” (Yash will become a better actor than me. He is technically stronger than me).
Speaking about supporting his son Yashvardhan’s journey in films, the celebrated star said, “At my request, Sajid Nadiadwala gave him a cabin so that he could learn different aspects of film making…”
Responding to questions on his wife Sunita Ahuja’s claims, he said, “…I left politics for my family because I did not want political life to interfere with my family life and adversely impact my children…”
Govinda said he preferred not to dwell on the individual allegations, saying, “I don’t want to discuss this topic further. Even responding to it feels insulting.”
Govinda is known for his comic timing, energetic performances and versatility across genres. He acted in hit films like ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’ and ‘Dulhe Raja’ and earned a permanent place in Hindi cinema.
