New Delhi: Renowned British-American sitar player Anoushka Shankar has received two Grammy nominations for her latest album Chapter II. Known for his mastery of classical, contemporary, acoustic and electronic genres, Shankar’s Grammy recognition further cements his place in the global music landscape. This is their 11th Grammy nomination, with Chapter II being nominated for Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album.
Shankar expressed his pride in the success of the album while sharing his happiness about the nomination. He said, “It’s been a long journey with the Grammys. I’m especially happy that my album has been nominated.” “I’m really proud of this piece.”
The nomination also adds a shared family accomplishment. Anushka and her sister, famous singer Norah Jones, have both been nominated for a Grammy multiple times, and this year marks the third time they are up for the award in the same year. Anushka recalled that special moment when they both walked the red carpet together and celebrated their successes as a family.
In addition to her musical achievements, Anushka also previously ventured into acting, most notably starring in the 2004 Bollywood film Dance Like a Man. While considering the possibility of a return to acting, she expressed her desire to once again explore film roles. “I would really love to do it again because there were some ways in which it was really fun. But I was 20, and I was very shy. I feel a lot more confident now, and it was a really cool thing to do.” “There will be talk,” he said.
Apart from acting, Shankar also expressed interest in composing music for Bollywood films. “The more I mature as a musician and the more I grow as a person, I think scoring is a beautiful extension of my work and I feel like I’ve already had some experiences abroad “I would love to do it here too.”
Looking ahead, 2025 marks an important milestone for Shankar as it celebrates 30 years of performance. On the touring front, she is gearing up for an exciting 2025, with plans for a US tour in March and an India tour towards the end of the year. Fans can also look forward to his upcoming album, Chapter 3, which is set for release in February–March 2025.
