Gross ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hiramandi: Diamond Bazaar exhibit at Royal College of Music Museum exhibition in London!

New Delhi: Netflix and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ has achieved yet another milestone as its hit song “Sakala Bun” is being featured in the Royal College of Music (RCM) Museum’s exhibition ‘Awaken: Sufi Music and Women of South Asia’ in London. The exhibition will run till June 15 in the UK. october for three months. This inclusion has placed ‘Heeramandi’ alongside iconic and celebrated Sufi music from films such as ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Zeenat’, cementing its status as a groundbreaking masterpiece in the history of Indian music.

In the week of its launch, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ became the most-watched Indian series on Netflix, trending in 43 countries. It is the first Indian series to feature a globally acclaimed music album, highlighting India’s rich musical heritage on an international stage. The Royal College of Music Museum’s exhibition, ‘Awaken: Sufi Music and Women of South Asia’, brings to the fore the often overlooked contribution of women in the traditionally male-dominated Sufi music landscape.

The exhibition, which opened on June 18, showcases the invaluable contributions of Sufi women through a display of objects from collections around the world. It showcases the voices, performances and instruments of Sufi women in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, from the Mughal period to present-day London. The inclusion of ‘Sakala Ban’ in this exhibition underlines the cultural and musical significance of this song.

‘Hiramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ will continue to highlight India’s rich and diverse musical heritage on a global stage, celebrating Sufi music and the important role of women in its history.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the eight-part series is now streaming on Netflix in 190 countries.
