Happy Holi 2025: Celebrate a safe and animal-friendly Holi, expert share tips

Next to Holi, Animal Protection Organization, Human World for Animals India (East Human Society International/India) has urged citizens to celebrate a kind Holi. The organization highlights the dangers arising by the toxic colors used during traditional Holi celebrations, which can pose serious health risk for humans and animals.

Karen Nazreth, director of the fellow Animals and Engagement Team at Human World for Animals India, says: “Every year, every year, there are frequent examples of individuals who forcibly implemented Holi colors and colorful water on road animals, which can lead to significant stress, skin irritation and toxicity. Let this Holi, let us celebrate with compassion and respect for all living beings, ensure that animals are not caused unnecessary harm. Animals, especially due to road and community animals, toxic colors, loud noise, water balloons and festivals can suffer. By choosing environmentally friendly colors, by avoiding harm to animals and persuading, we can ensure that Holi remains a joyful opportunity for all-human and animals similar. It is our responsibility to ensure that our happiness does not cause crisis for those who share our streets and neighborhoods. ,


Dr. Piyush Patel, Director of Veterinarian and fellow animals and director of the engagement team of Human World for Animals shared tips to celebrate animal friendly Holi:

1. Do not apply toxic colors on animals: Never apply Holi colors on animals. Synthetic dyes can be toxic, which can cause skin allergies, blindness and toxicity. Dogs, cats and other animals often lick their body to clean themselves, inadvertently swallowing Holi colors, which often becomes a primary cause of poisoning. Breathing powder can cause nasal irritation, and even respiratory infections.

2. Avoid feeding sweets to road animals: Do not feed pets or road animals sweets or fried foods, as they can cause digestive issues and health problems. Rod to behave safe, pet-friendly.

3. Teach children to play responsibly: While children often get excited by colors and water splashes, make sure their enthusiasm does not harm animals inadvertently. Children use Holi as an opportunity to educate children about animal care. Discourage them by printing water balloons or throwing colors, especially street dogs, which are the weakest during the festival.

4. Safe color removal: If an animal is accidentally colored, then gently wash them with light pet shampoo. Never use kerosene or souls to remove colors, and immediately consult a veterinarian if the color enters their eyes, nose or mouth.

5. Community Awareness: Beyond Holi, encourage and increase awareness within your community to celebrate responsibly. Request your Community Secretary and Building Managers to display informative posters that highlight the dangers of Holi colors to animals. To reduce the disruption for road animals, organize the ceremony in the designated areas, away from animal houses. Advises the residents advise to keep pets and community dogs indoors and ensure that water or colors are not thrown on road animals. By working together, we can create a safe and more kind environment for all.

6. Emergency contacts are ready: Keep contact details of local animal rescue groups or veterinarians in case of an animal being injured or unwell.
